Scottsdale Ranch History

Scottsdale Ranch - A Community of Choice

Scottsdale Ranch is a master-planned community that was developed in 1984 jointly by Markland Properties, Inc. and Costain Arizona, Inc. and has since become a premier and progressive community promoting unique lifestyle options.  Scottsdale Ranch is comprised of 3,938 residences located in 40 different subdivisions, all reflecting one’s taste and individuality, from stately waterfront homes and spacious tennis villas, to private patio homes, elegant townhomes, and spacious and inviting single-family homes.

As part of the city’s northeast growth plan, Scottsdale Ranch was purchased in 1978, rezoned in 1979, and ranges from one dwelling unit to the acre lots to multi-family at 16 dwelling units to the acre.  The development is located on 1,119 acres and houses a forty-two acre lake that was developed jointly by Scottsdale Ranch,  the City of Scottsdale, Maricopa County and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Lake Serena is part of the Indian Bend Green Belt System and serves as control for run-off water from the McDowell Mountains.  The water to fill Lake Serena comes from groundwater from a well located on Scottsdale Ranch.  It is our “jewel” in the desert that provides many hours of tranquility and enjoyment for our residents.

Centrally located within in the heart of our community is the Scottsdale Ranch Park.  The Scottsdale Ranch Park is a 64-acre general public use area that was donated by the developer to the City of Scottsdale; therefore, our community surrounds some of Scottsdale’s most advantageous amenities.  Also included among the amenities in Scottsdale Ranch Park are the Scottsdale Senior Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Scottsdale and the award-winning Laguna Elementary School.  These facilities provided by our local municipality and various organizations, together, give people of any age a way of maintaining both social and recreational lives right outside their door.

Our community is a substantial real estate project designed to include housing and other living and recreational amenities and services.  The purpose of this planned community and its homeowners association is to provide a means to enhance the value of a property by developing a living environment superior to that which might be achieved by a less-structured means to include:

·    A choice of lifestyles:  single-family homes, patio homes, townhomes, and condominiums.

·    A choice of recreation:  boating and fishing, biking and jogging, tennis and fun social activities.

·    Protection of investment:  orderly growth, common area maintenance, architectural control and zoning protection.

The Scottsdale Ranch Community Association is committed to the constant pursuit of implementing its mission statement – “The Mission of the Scottsdale Ranch Community Association is to serve as the organization through which its residents may sustain and enhance the character, quality of life and desirability of our community”.  The association engages in many partnerships with the municipalities, surrounding agencies, organizations and schools where the members continue to make a difference. Scottsdale Ranch constantly implements new ways to encourage this “community” style of life.
